How to Differentiate Emotions, Feelings, and Values
Emotions and feelings are not the same. Discover why telling them apart is essential for your daily mental well-being.

Emotions and feelings differ because emotions are temporary physical reactions, whereas feelings are conscious, lasting mental interpretations. Values represent our core ethical principles that guide long-term behavior beyond these temporary states. Understanding this difference helps participants in our WHI Institute programs achieve true mental well-being.
What are emotions?
Before exploring why emotions and feelings differ, we must first understand what emotions actually are. First, you must realize that living in emotion means living in the mind. Consequently, the mind acts as a judge, an ego, and a persona.
Emotions are energy movements fully conditioned by your ideas, expectations, and thoughts. This applies to thoughts about yourself, others, plans, or anything else. Therefore, thought and emotion form an inseparable bond. We can say that emotion is the heart of the mind.
You cannot stop emotions because you cannot stop thoughts. However, you can become aware of them. Specifically, you can recognize their impact on your physical, mental, and relational body. You can also observe the environment you create around you. Indeed, their physical impact is unquestionable. The body produces rapid biochemical reactions due to the constant flow of thoughts.
Thought has a clear purpose, otherwise it would not exist. For instance, it helps us organize, plan, study, and pack a suitcase. These actions help us progress naturally. However, we must not let thoughts dominate our lives and get carried away by the accompanying emotionality.
If we truly want to change our behavior, we must learn to pause first, renew our perspective next, and finally, take some distance to confiadamente, ¡saltar!
Is there another way to live? Finding meaning
Let us continue exploring emotions and feelings. Fortunately, there is another way to live and work. This path connects us directly with meaning. Meaning arises spontaneously and is driven by deep feelings. It is an inner certainty. Although invisible to physical eyes and the ego, it remains completely real and authentic.
Have you discovered this yet? To live with meaning, you must be free from fear. This includes the fear of not fitting in, not surviving, or not knowing.
Meaning is the heart of the soul. You can only experience it through authenticity. This requires removing the social mask of expectations. Are you ready to take the leap and escape the deceptive games of the mind?
How do emotions and feelings impact organizations?
Clearly, emotions and feelings are not the same. We must stay mindful of this to maintain mental well-being. Specifically, organizations must mature and transform. They need internal growth to build human warmth. This allows us to show authenticity and lead with meaning. Here, we view organizations as ecosystems made of individual states.
By maturing individually, we realize we do not have to like every single day. Instead, we can learn to live from the heart. True happiness comes from giving ourselves fully. We can learn to accept whatever happens from a place of freedom. J. Krishnamurti showed that freedom is found at the very beginning. This happens before the ego-centered mind contaminates life. Viktor Frankl also noted that spiritual freedom cannot be taken away. This freedom gives life its true meaning.
How can the Salutogénesis model build organizational maturity and reduce absenteeism?
We know you have tried everything, yet organizational stress remains high and absenteeism keeps rising. However, absenteeism rarely has a purely physical cause. We could call it «resignationism» instead. This ratio measures professionals who have given up on learning and renewing their passion. They no longer feel alive or transformed.
The Salutogénesis model of health focuses on factors that keep people healthy during difficult times. Indeed, Salutogénesis is the only health discipline that integrates all human dimensions. Consequently, it approaches health through human development, systemic awareness, and spiritual well-being.
Finding and developing talent is increasingly difficult. This productivity gap makes it vital to show that everyone matters. We must ensure every employee feels valued. This requires a new way of working led by mature, values-driven leaders. These leaders support you with challenges, rewards, or a break when needed.
We must not abandon this human and spiritual greatness when leading teams. Otherwise, we will suffer and fail to achieve our desired results.
Therefore, Salutogénesis can guide us to find meaning and overcome anxiety. It helps us recover our passion for life. Through our specialized LifeCourse Journey program, organizations can foster true well-being. This journey empowers individuals to become conscious leaders. They learn to handle daily stress, work productively, and contribute to their community.
